Napoleon Wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus)
The napoleon wrasses are expensive consumed fish that live in the coral reef. This condition forces fishermen to catch more napoleon wrasse. Often, they use explosive that will not only kill the fish but also destroy the reef.
This large-scale carp belongs to family cyprinoidea and by people from Kuningan regency, West Java, it is called the God’s fish. The local people consider the fish as sacred and will not capture them for any reason. That is why the populations remain stable over periods of time.
The giant freshwater whipray is a very large estuarine and freshwater species that can reach of maximum diameter of 230 cm. The giant freshwater whipray in our main aquarium came from Pelabuhan Ratu, west Java.
The Arapaima gigas is one of the largest freshwater fish lives in the Amazon River. They have an unique self adaptation mechanism which allows them to roll their body into a circle shape and bury them into a hole until the river water rises. As they need oxygen for breathing, come up to water surface every 5 to 20 minutes.
The reproduction cycle is started at the age of 5 it often occurs at the rainy season and when the floods the river. During February until April they lay their eggs in their 50 cm and 15 cm depth nest on a sandy bottom. As the water rises around May until August, the eggs will hatch, after that the mother will lay the brood in her mouth.
